Former President John Dramani Mahama has joined the public discussion on a document circulating on social media alleging a scheme by some individuals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), especially from the Akyem area in the Eastern Region to annex state assets for some individuals.

Speaking in Bawku on Saturday [Aug 3, 2024] as part of his campaign tour of the Upper East, Mr Mahama dismissed the formal response by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Okyenhene that the “Agyapadie” document was a fabrication.

Mr Mahama questioned that if the document [Agyapadie] was fabricated, how about its implementation and suggested that, its “implementation is evidence of its authenticity.”

Mr Mahama therefore challenged those who claim the document is fake to explain why “it is being implemented”.

“If the ‘Agyapadie’ document is fabricated, its implementation is not fabricated,” he said.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday [August 1, 2024] reacted to the document circulating on social media alleging a scheme by some individuals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to annex state assets for some individuals.

Similarly, the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin last Satuday [July 27, 2024] also reacted at an Akyem Abuakwa council meeting in Kyebi said it [document] was fabricated to fan hatred against the Ofori Panin household and Okyeman.

He said it has been fabricated as if it was all part of Ofori Panin Fie’s grand scheme to fleece Ghana and that the document, containing fabricated, revised and concocted allegations, was meant to fan the flames of hatred against the Akyem people.

He explained that the genesis of the document/book, which started in 2016, was a desperate move by some political schemers.

Mahama on its implementation

But Mr Mahama speaking in Bawku on Saturday emphasised the need for accountability, saying that the current government must be held responsible for their actions over the past seven years.

He warned that a vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be equivalent to giving President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo a third term, which he believes would be detrimental to the country.

The NDC flag bearer promised to hold his appointees accountable and prosecute corrupt NPP officials if he wins the election.

He also assured the people of Bawku that he would fulfill his 2016 promise to build a world-class hospital facility in the area.

Mr Mahama also made several commitments, including: Completing the eastern corridor road, finishing the Tamine irrigation dam, exploring the possibility of building a tertiary institution in the Bawku area, as requested by the chief, and providing detailed information on the NDC’s plans in their manifesto launch.

Bawku to get first-class hospital – Mahama

Mr Mahama reiterated his promise to construct a first-class hospital in Bawku in the Upper East Region.

He said the promise which was made in the run-up to the 2016 election and still stands was intended to put an end, the need for residents to travel to Bolgatanga and Tamale to receive medical care.

He indicated that the new hospital would be a major referral facility within the Bawku area.

He was responding to a request by Bawku Naba, Zugraan Asigri Abugrago Azoka II during a courtesy call on him and his elders in his Palace.

He added that a hospital project in Garu started by the NDC government which has been abandoned would also be completed to enable the people to have access to quality medical care.

Touching on the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polimakom road, he said he cut the sod in 2015 it was expected to have beeen completed by now.

However, he assured the people that the road project would be completed including the Nankpanduri-Kulungugu stretch of the Eastern corridor road project.

In an address read on his behalf, Naba Azoka II, said the numerous developmental projects executed by the NDC had left an indelible mark in the area.

Further, he appealed for the conversion of the Savanna Agricultural Research Centre into a University to ensure food security in the country.
