The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ketu North in the Volta Region, Eric Edem Agbana, has said empowering young people with hands-on and employable skills will be among his priorities when given the nod.

Pursuant to that, he said, a four-year scheme is in place to train 500 young people every year in carpentry, building and construction, CCTV camera installation, animal rearing and other vocations.

“So, in four years, we will train a total of 2,000 youth in the various occupations,” Mr Agbana told the Daily Graphic.

He maintained the constituency was also endowed with vast and fertile lands, which would be utilised to produce vegetables on a massive commercial footing.

Meanwhile, Mr Agbana said the constituency was the largest producer of rice in the region, with 900,000 hectares of land, which would definitely support job creation for the youth, with modern farm methods.

Mr Agbana said a project to encourage the youth to embrace farming, ‘Agblenyo’, was in progress to boost productivity in the constituency.

Education/Environment

In the area of education, the parliamentary candidate said needy, brilliant students would be supported vigorously in tertiary institutions, under the Edem Agbana Scholarship Scheme.

“Already, 60 students are benefitting from the scholarship scheme,” he said.

On environment and sanitation, Mr Agbana said skips would be placed in the markets and lorry stations to ensure there was no rubbish on the ground while ornamental trees would be planted along the roads.

Campaign

The former Deputy National Youth Organiser of the NDC said victory was awaiting the party in the forthcoming general elections, and entreated supporters of the NDC to remain united to ensure a resounding triumph for the party.

Mr Agbana, who launched his campaign in Dzodze on Sunday (September 1), said there were clear indications that the NDC would sweep more than 90 per cent of the votes in the constituency.
