A former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Prof Titus Kofi Beyuo has assured the people of Lambusie constituency of quality accessible leadership.

Prof Titus Beyuo noted that one key thing which the constituency lacked in the last four years has been credible leadership.

Speaking at the launch of the party’s campaign at Hamile in the Lambusie constituency of the Upper West Region, he accused the Lambusie District Chief Executive, George Gerald Naluri and his main opponent in the election and the Member of Parliament for Lambusie, John Yelvielidong Baligi of failing to deliver in that regard.

“We have an MP you cannot find, he has no office in the constituency. To find him or the DCE, you have to go to a hotel to see them. We have a DCE who has lived in a hotel for 4 years whilst there is a bungalow for him. This type of leadership is what we want to end,” he stated.

He continued, “We have a DCE living in a hotel when the district ambulance has no tyres and must be provided by the parliamentary candidate of the NDC. We have a DCE staying in a hotel comfortable when the only district fire tender has no battery nor pumping machine and cannot move,’’ he stated eliciting loud cheers from the supporters.

But the Lambusie MP, John Ydongelviel Baligi has strenuously denied the allegation.

He stated that he has never stayed in a hotel in the constituency and for the past 2 weeks has been residing at his home at Kpare in the constituency.

The Lambusie DCE, Gerald Naluri on his part conceded to the claims of the NDC parliamentary candidate.

He however stated that he has been staying in a guest house as a result of ongoing renovation works at his official residence. He averred that the renovation works at the official residence were delayed after they diverted the monies towards more pressing needs of the people such as the construction of schools for the education of the people.

Prof Titus Beyuo pledged to work assiduously to improve the health, education and economic well-being of the people. He promised to set up a scholarship scheme for brilliant but needy students three months after starting his reign as MP of the area.

‘‘What I suffered and wouldn’t want anybody to suffer is to provide some support for your education. The district has no scholarship. People who passed to senior high school and need support have to apply and go to the MP to plead and if you are not a politician (member of his party) you won’t get it,’’ he alleged.

The consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist also pledged to construct a modern library furnished with computers and laptops which the district at the moment cannot boast of.

He also spoke of deplorable roads in the constituency which he claimed is the only district in the region without an inch of bituminous surface in the district. He promised to fix them.

Former Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu pledged 25,000 Ghana cedis to Prof. Titus Beyuo as seed capital for the scholarship scheme.

He took a dig at the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for the mismanagement of the country’s economy resulting in excruciating hardship on the people. He called on the People to vote massively for the NDC to return to power to fix the mess that had been created by the NPP.

Haruna Iddrisu averred that it is only when John Mahama is given another bite of the pie that Ghanaians will be able to judge clearly which of them outperforms the other.

Former Member of Parliament, Edward Kaa-Ewola Dery who lost the party’s primary to Prof Titus Dery also pledged his unflinching support to the latter and pledged to join him in the campaign for total victory for the party.

Many in the constituency had predicted a split of votes for the party in the polls following rumours that he was going to run as an independent candidate in the elections.

A member of the national communications team of the NDC, Hajia Shamima Muslim urged supporters of the party especially women to vote for the NDC to enable them to establish the women’s development bank to support their businesses.

As has been the practice, he was joined by parliamentary candidates of the various constituencies to drum home the message of unity for total victory for the party in the December polls.
