Former President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his resolve to hold to account all government officials who have misappropriated state resources if he is elected president.

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said officials who have contributed to the hardship of Ghanaians through their corrupt deeds would be punished.

According to him, he would not witch hunt anybody but will only go after those who have crossed the line.

He also promised to allow all anti-corruption bodies to function without any political interference.

He pledged to extend the probe into his government while in office and hold to account any of his officials who crossed the line.

Speaking at the ‘Building Ghana We Want Tour’ in the North East region the candidate stated that the current government is unwilling to be held accountable for its mismanagement and corrupt actions.

“But I can assure them that the people of Ghana will hold them accountable for what they’ve done. We are going to hunt anybody, but if you have messed up the lives of the people of Ghana and misappropriated their money, you must account for it. And so the investigative institutions and anti-corruption institutions are going to work. If you have crossed the line and are part of the problem and the hardship that has been inflicted on Ghanaians over the last seven years, you must account for it. And I said that we are not going to pursue post-regime accountability alone; we are going to pursue regime accountability.

It means we are not only going to investigate our predecessors, but even in our government, if you also fall foul of the law, you will be held to account. So, the youth of this country, you must recognise the harm that has been inflicted upon you. Many of us are senior citizens now; how many years have we had to live and yet look at the kind of mortality of your future that has been done?
