Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on party supporters and all Ghanaians to join the party’s nationwide demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday.

Speaking at a mini rally at Amanfro Park in the Ga South Municipality on Sunday, during his ongoing Greater Accra regional tour, Mahama stressed the importance of putting pressure on the EC to ensure transparency and accountability.

He reiterated the NDC’s demand for a forensic audit to safeguard the credibility of the next election.

“The only way to get the EC to sit up is to put pressure on them, and that is why on Tuesday, you must all join the demonstrations across the country. It’s not only for NDC people but for all Ghanaians,” Mr. Mahama said.

The NDC has raised concerns about the EC’s preparedness for the upcoming elections, pointing to issues with voter registration, electoral reforms, and transparency.

The party has been advocating for a forensic audit of the EC to ensure the credibility of the electoral process, but the commission has so far resisted these requests.

Last week, after submitting the NDC flagbearer’s nomination forms to the EC, the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, reiterated the NDC’s concerns about the electoral process. He emphasized the need for mutual understanding between the EC and all political parties.

“We have serious concerns about the process so far, and I believe we are engaging. The purpose of the engagement is to reach mutual conclusions acceptable to everyone,” Nketiah said.

He further added, “We are not willing to give up our rights heading into these elections. We are hopeful that the commission will listen to us and discharge their responsibilities in a way that will satisfy all participating parties.”
