Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Member of Parliament for Akatsi North, has commended former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration for completing 46 E-blocks across Ghana, despite initially pledging to construct 200 Senior High Schools.
During a Face to Face interview on Citi TV, the Ranking Member of the Education Committee in Parliament praised the vision of the National Democratic Congress’s flagbearer for initiating such crucial educational infrastructure projects.
He dismissed criticisms suggesting that Mr. Mahama’s government was a failure for not fulfilling the entire 200 E-blocks promise, arguing that they would have accomplished all the projects if they had remained in power.
Additionally, he pointed out that the Akufo-Addo administration, despite promising to construct 350 new SHSs, has failed to deliver on this commitment.
“If we had remained in office, we would have finished all, we built 46, it’s not small. There were about a 100 more at the various stages of completion. 46 out of 200 is not a failure. It’s about how you are delivering on your promise.
“This government promised in their campaign in Navrongo that they were going to build 350 new SHSs, how many have they delivered? You must give credit to [former] President Mahama for even having that vison,” he told host Umaru Sanda Amadu.
The MP stated that Ghanaians could hold them accountable if they had promised to complete all the schools by 2015.
“We had progressively free SHS, so we planned it in a such a way that within 4 years, we would have been able to provide all those facilities. If we had promised Ghanaians that in 2015, we would’ve put up 200 new SHSs, I think they can hold us responsible for that.”
