The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has announced plans to tackle the persistent low voltage problems affecting communities along the Eastern Corridor of Ghana.
On the third day of his tour of the Bono East Region, former President Mahama assured residents of Atebubu that a future NDC government would install new electricity substations to enhance power supply and resolve the long-standing issue of low voltage in areas such as Yeji, Bimbilla, and Yendi.
Some communities in the region have complained of inadequate power supply, which has hindered economic growth and disrupted daily life. Mr Mahama acknowledged these challenges and committed to prioritising the installation of substations to ensure stable and reliable electricity.
“We understand the struggles you face with low voltage, and it’s due to the absence of substations along the Eastern Corridor. We are committed to finding a lasting solution,” Mr Mahama said.
He added that the new substations would not only improve power supply but also create opportunities for businesses to thrive and support industrial growth.
Gratitude to traditional leaders
In his address, the former President expressed gratitude to the chiefs and elders of Atebubu for their efforts in resolving recent tensions between the NDC, its Parliamentary Candidate Sanja Nanja, and the local community. He praised their leadership in fostering peace and unity within the party.
Mr Mahama also outlined his vision for transforming agriculture in the region by establishing a Farmers’ Service Centre. This initiative, he said, would provide farmers with access to inputs, extension services, and markets, thereby boosting productivity and fostering economic growth.
He further pledged to continue investing in key road projects that would connect the Bono East enclave to other regions, emphasising the importance of improving infrastructure to facilitate trade, commerce, and tourism, which would drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for citizens.
Community engagements
The former President engaged with several communities during his tour, listening to their concerns and sharing his vision for Ghana’s future.
The day’s events began with community interactions at Kwadwokrom and Kwame Danso (Presby Park). Mr. Mahama also held mini durbars at Nyankawntre Main Station, Lemu Lorry Station, Amantin Anglican Primary School, and Atebubu, where he met with residents and reiterated his commitment to addressing the region’s challenges.
Throughout the tour, Mr. Mahama focused on key regional issues, including inadequate power supply, poor road networks, and limited economic opportunities. He assured the people of Bono East that his administration would prioritise their needs and work tirelessly to improve their lives.
