Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged to revamp market centres nationwide under the proposed market enhancement programme.
John Mahama envisages the initiative will inter alia bolster trading activities, especially among women while enhancing the local economy.
Addressing a gathering at Adjei Kojo in the Tema West Constituency as part of his Greater Accra Campaign engagement, Mahama reiterated his devotion to empowering women.
“In the first 120 days, we will provide the seed money upfront for the women’s development bank. So that our mothers and our sisters can get loans with low interest, and no collateral, you don’t need collateral.
“So that they can build up their businesses and be able to raise money to be able to look after the family. Apart from that, for our women, we are going to do what we call the market enhancement programme.
“Everywhere there is a market we will engineer it properly, build it nicely, base the floor so that when it rains you don’t have to walk in mud to enter the market. We have to make the markets enticing so that they are happy to go there and buy things.
