The presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called for measures to be put in place to prevent Kenyan-style protests in Ghana.

The former president believes this administration has failed to discharge its duties as expected by Ghanaians.

President William Ruto was forced to withdraw a finance bill that proposed new tax reforms following protests that led to the deaths of more than 20 people.

He has also announced a cut in government expenditures.

Mr. Mahama said there is mismanagement under this administration, with limited opportunities for young people.

He has therefore promised to create numerous opportunities, especially for the teeming youth population.

Speaking during a working visit to the La Dadekotopon constituency on July 5, Mahama stated, “They say Africa’s population is youthful and it’s important to have a youthful population. But if you have a youthful population and you’re not creating opportunities for them, then it can become a timebomb.

“We have all seen what is happening in Kenya, we don’t want that to happen in Ghana. And so, when we come, things are going to be different. It’s not going to be business as usual; we want to be a government in a hurry to repair the mess created by Bawumia and Akufo-Addo.

“The people of Ghana are looking at NDC to come and rescue them from the hardships in which they have been plunged…We will do things that will turn the economy around as quickly as possible.”
