The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to enhance the role of traditional leaders in local governance and address infrastructural deficits in newly created regions if elected.

Speaking at an engagement with traditional leaders at the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Mr. Mahama emphasised his commitment to bridging the gap between traditional authorities and government officials.

The NDC flagbearer criticised the current administration’s approach to regional development, claiming that the creation of new regions under the NPP government has not led to meaningful infrastructure improvements despite being established with promises of development.

Mr. Mahama however promised that if he wins the upcoming general elections, his administration will prioritise infrastructure growth in these regions to ensure the regions receive the attention and resources they need.

In addition to his focus on infrastructure, Mr. Mahama assured traditional leaders that their role would be significantly enhanced under his leadership.

He promised increased collaboration with traditional rulers and improved sanitation practices as part of his broader vision for effective local governance.

During an interaction with the NDC flagbearer, Nana Akwasi Bosomprah, the Paramount Chief of Goaso, reiterated the importance of religious and traditional leaders in overseeing governance.

Nana Bosomprah stressed that checks and balances are a collective responsibility and should not be swayed by personal relationships.

He emphasised that religious and traditional leaders must speak out when governance goes awry, advocating for vigilance and vocal engagement in addressing governance issues.
