The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has urged the youth and students of the Tempane Constituency to resist any attempts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to influence their votes with monetary incentives.
Addressing students and party supporters at Tempane Senior High School during his national campaign tour, Mr Mahama cautioned the young electorate against allowing their votes to be bought with GH¢200 or GH¢500, highlighting that such inducements would only perpetuate their poverty.
He emphasized that, accepting bribes from the NPP would not lead to any meaningful improvement in their lives or the country’s development.
Mr Mahama stressed the importance of rejecting short-term financial gains in favour of long-term benefits that come from supporting a party committed to their future.
He encouraged the youth to critically evaluate the policies and promises of the parties, ensuring that their votes contribute to meaningful change and progress.
The NDC flagbearer also highlighted the party’s dedication to creating opportunities for the youth and improving the overall quality of life in Ghana.
He assured the students and supporters that the NDC’s plans would address the root causes of their struggles and provide sustainable solutions for a better future.
“Don’t let NPP buy your conscience with GH¢200 or GH¢500 during elections to continue to keep you in poverty,” Mr. Mahama asserted.
“If they come with the money, collect it and chop it, it is your money, but don’t vote for them because NPP doesn’t have anything better to offer your future,” he insisted.
Additionally, the former President took the opportunity to criticize the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, suggesting a lack of consistency and reliability in their policies.
He questioned the candidate’s shift in focus from economic issues to digitalization, implying that this change signalled a lack of concrete plans for the nation’s economic recovery.
“If I say the NPP has nothing to offer for the future of Ghanaians, I mean it because the very ‘Mr. Economy’ who was all over saying micro and macroeconomics is now running away from that to something called digitalization,” Mahama argued.
“Is this the type of person you should trust? Let us rescue this country together through your vote for the NDC,” he added.
