The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has expressed deep concern over what it describes as the “glaring neglect” of the region in the manifesto presented by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by its flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the NDC, the NPP’s manifesto fails to provide specific initiatives tailored to the unique needs and aspirations of the people in the Volta Region, which they argue is a reflection of the ruling party’s longstanding disregard for the region.

In a statement issued by Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, the NDC emphasised that Dr. Bawumia did not visit victims of the recent tidal waves in Anlo, Keta, and Ketu South during his campaign in the region.

The party also criticised him for only visiting victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage after public pressure, which they say further underscores the NPP’s lack of genuine concern for the Volta Region.

The NDC also accused the NPP of having a history of neglecting the region in national budgets and policies.

The NDC claims that the absence of specific projects for the Volta Region in the NPP’s manifesto is not accidental but rather a deliberate neglect by a party that, according to them, does not have the interests of the region at heart.

The statement further points out that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s running mate, has made comments and taken actions that reinforce this belief.

In contrast, the NDC highlighted its “Resetting Ghana” manifesto, which it says includes over 28 specific projects and initiatives designed to foster sustainable development in the Volta Region.

These plans cover sectors such as infrastructure, education, health, job creation, and good governance.

The NDC describes these initiatives as evidence of its commitment to inclusive development and recognition of the Volta Region’s crucial role in Ghana’s socio-economic landscape.

The NDC has called on Voltarians and people of Volta descent, both within and outside the region, to reject the NPP in the upcoming December 7th elections.

They argue that the NPP lacks meaningful commitment to the Volta Region and has failed to gain the trust of even its own delegates, as demonstrated by the party’s rejection of Dr. Bawumia during the presidential primaries.

The NDC reiterated its stance that the NPP’s manifesto offers “nothing but empty rhetoric” and urged Voltarians to support the NDC, led by former President John Dramani Mahama, in its efforts to bring transformative change and prosperity to the Volta Region.

The statement concluded with a strong appeal to Voltarians to stand with the NDC in the upcoming elections to “reset Ghana” and ensure real, positive change for the region.
