The Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, has indicated that the committee plans to push the Education Minister to address the sector’s challenges by bringing these issues into the public domain.

The Akatsi North MP explained that the Minister has repeatedly failed to appear before the House to provide answers to their questions.

The Minority has alleged that the government owes over 6 billion Ghana Cedis to organizations and individuals involved in the Free Senior High School policy.

Speaking to Citi News, Peter Nortsu Kotoe expressed hope that the Minister will take the necessary steps to brief the House on the situation.

“We have realised that anytime these issues come up, or when the government is delaying, it’s only when we talk. In fact, you invite them and they will tell you they are working on it. Basic Education Certificate Examination issue, we invited the minister of education and finance, it was only the deputy minister of education who represented the minister and we realised that that was not an issue the deputy minister would handle.

“We will need the minister himself to appear before the committee. As a minority, we decided that this time, we would put everything in the public domain. So that people will appreciate the challenges people are going through for the government to take the necessary action,” Peter Nortsu-Kotoe.
