Deputy Elections Director for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), claims that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, is a champion or an advocate for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQI+) activities.
Mahdi Jibril says he therefore does not qualify to be in the second-most powerful position in the country.
According to him, becoming the next Vice President will threaten our cultural and social values and push our children into following such practices.
Mahdi Jibril allaged that it took strong opposition from Ghanaians to oppose the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Curriculum, which was championed by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh when he was the Education Minister.
He said God forbid that someone who is a promoter of LGBTQI+ activities be the Vice President of Ghana.
The idea of introducing a CSE from KG to Primary 6 in Ghana dominated public discussions in 2019 and had civil society groups, religious bodies, and religious leaders opposing it.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who was then the Education Minister, stated that the approved curriculum framework from kindergarten to primary school does not include comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), contrary to what is currently being discussed in the public domain.
He said at the time that even though the curriculum framework that has been approved by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has also been approved by Cabiinet and published, it “does not include CSE.”
Referring to this, Mahdi Jibril said this was the man who pushed into our curriculum ‘trumu trumu’ so Ghanaians will accept. Who pushed that agenda? It was up to Ghanaians to fight this before it was rescinded. These are the people who want to lead us tomorrow. If they should win and God forbid that they won, they will push this thing back to us. Up to date, we don’t have approved textbooks, and NAPO wants to be our vice president. This is the incompetent one who could not release textbooks for our schools, and he wants to lead us tomorrow.”.
He said this when he appeared on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.
