The Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson, along with several civil society organizations (CSOs), has criticized the newly appointed running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for being tribalistic.
Mr. Mensah Thompson stated that Dr. Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as NAPO, has a dislike for people from the Volta Region of the country.
“We have worked with NAPO at both the Education and Energy Ministries. As CSOs, we can say that NAPO is a tribalist. He personally dislikes Ewes. We are not asking the NPP to drop NAPO, but he is arrogant,” he told Citizen Kofi Owusu.
Mr. Thompson alleged that Dr. Opoku Prempeh dismissed managers from the Education Ministry because they were from the Volta Region and accused them of being members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) when he became Minister.
“At the Education Ministry, he sacked all Ewes except one, accusing them of being NDC members. All senior managers from the Volta Region were dismissed because they were Voltarians,” he remarked.
In addition, the ASEPA Executive Director accused the NPP running mate of being an incompetent policy maker, having poor relationships with stakeholders, being unfair in his dealings, and disliking accountability, which leads to his dislike for CSOs.
