Police in the Ashanti region have been accused of firing warning shots and spraying hot water on participants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration.

Former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Central, Ebenezer Akuoko-Frimpong, made the claims on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday.

Chaos broke out after the protesters violently faced off with some policemen amidst the change of blows.

The chaos reportedly erupted in an attempt by the protesters to defy the guidelines and access the Ashanti Regional Electoral Commission(EC) office but were restrained by the Police.

However, Mr Akuoko-Frimpong claims the Police acted unprovoked.

According to him, the process had been peaceful until the personnel deployed to maintain law and order fired warning shots in their bid to submit a petition at the EC office.

Mr Akuoko-Frimpong further claimed a Policeman almost slapped the NDC Regional Chairman, Andrews Nana Akwasi in the heat of the moment.

He stated that, the brute force from the Police will not stop them from demanding the right thing to be done, adding they will in due course announce their next line of action.

The nationwide protest was to pressure the EC into conducting an audit of the voter register.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has denied any shooting incident at the EC office in the course of the protest.
