The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Disability Desk has strongly condemned a violent attack on its deaf supporters, allegedly carried out by individuals affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asawinso A, a community in the Bibiani Municipal area of the Western North Region.

The one brutal incident, which was captured on camera and broadcast on XYZ TV, has shocked communities across the country and brought attention to the growing issue of political violence in Ghana.

The victim, identified as Samson Adjei, popularly known as Kofi Kaah, was assaulted while passing an NPP campaign float on his motorbike.

According to reports, the NPP supporters harassed him and forcefully took some of the plantains he was carrying.

When Adjei, who is deaf, protested, he was pushed to the ground and subjected to a vicious mob attack.

The assailants reportedly struck him with blows, kicks, and the blunt side of his cutlass.

As a result of the beating, Adjei collapsed and had to be revived before being taken to the hospital for treatment.

Currently recovering from the attack, Adjei has suffered severe swelling to his face and body, and his vision has been affected due to sensitivity to light.

It is suspected that the assault was politically motivated, given Adjei’s known affiliation with the NDC.

In a statement signed by Frederick Assor, the National Coordinator of the NDC Disability Desk, the party expressed outrage at the attack, calling it a clear violation of the victim’s rights and dignity as a person with a disability.

The desk condemned the attack as an affront to Ghana’s democratic values, which uphold the freedom of every citizen to associate with any political group without fear of violence or intimidation.

The NDC Disability Desk raised serious concerns about the growing political intolerance in Ghana, noting that such violent incidents erode the country’s democratic principles.

The group called on all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, to reject political violence and promote respectful dialogue.

The statement also highlighted the attackers’ brazen confidence, with some allegedly boasting of immunity from consequences.

This attitude, according to the NDC Disability Desk, reflects a dangerous culture of impunity and a disregard for the rule of law.

The group urged law enforcement agencies in the Western North Region to prioritize the case and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The NDC Disability Desk further called on the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Peace Council to follow up on the incident to ensure a fair outcome.

The desk reiterated its commitment to advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities and ensuring their voices are respected in the political sphere.
