The National Democratic Congress General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, says the proposed 24-hour economy policy by the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama is transforming.

He highlighted that this policy not only aims to tackle the country’s escalating unemployment crisis but also intends to reshape its economic landscape.

He expressed grave concern over the alarming rise in unemployment rates, especially among the youth, citing statistics from the Ghana Statistical Service.

The data revealed a significant increase in joblessness, particularly among individuals aged 15 to 35, with a notable gender disparity favouring males.

In response to this crisis, Kwetey underscored Mahama’s proposal for a 24-hour economy policy, designed to revolutionize job creation and economic empowerment by fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors.

The core principles of this policy include maximising economies of scale and scope, optimizing capacity utilization, and synchronizing industrial operations with the global economic pace.

Kwetey emphasised that this initiative aims not only to alleviate unemployment but also to redefine how Ghanaians engage in economic activities beyond traditional working hours.

Reiterating the party’s commitment to effective policy implementation, resource management, and leadership attuned to the dynamics of a “nocturnal” economy, Kwetey assured that the NDC is dedicated to realising the success of the 24-hour economy policy upon assuming power in 2025.

He stressed that this policy represents more than a mere campaign promise, serving as a pledge to cultivate a vibrant, round-the-clock economic culture that caters to every sector’s needs and harnesses the potential of every Ghanaian.

Kwetey envisioned a Ghana where time constraints no longer hinder daily life, with businesses operating beyond the conventional 9-to-5 framework, thereby creating a ripple effect of job creation and economic growth.

In conclusion, Kwetey urged all Ghanaians to support John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming December 2024 general elections, enabling him to implement the 24-hour economy policy and other transformative initiatives for Ghana’s development.
