The parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Awutu Senya East, Phyllis Naa Koryo Okunnor has criticised the sitting Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson, accusing her of being responsible for the area’s bad publicity due to frequent unrests.

In a recent interview, Naa Koryo detailed the turbulent atmosphere in Kasoa, citing continuous unrest and chaos.

She specifically recounted to the host of Yen Nsempa Nana Yaa Brefo in a phone-in interview a series of alarming incidents from 2020 where she claims Madam Koomson, on four separate occasions, brandished a gun and threatened her life.

“Due to the curse we call an MP at Kasoa who pulled a gun on me on four different occasions,” Naa Koryo stated emphatically. “Someone who pulls a gun on a fellow woman, is she not a curse?”

These comments come in the wake of an incident involving the Ghana Police Service, where Phyllis Naa Koryo Okunnor, along with Mustapha Mohammed and Abdul Aziz Musah, were arrested.

The trio was apprehended while traveling in a Honda CRV saloon car with registration number GX-2044-19 near the Electoral Commission (EC) Office at Ofaakor. They were found in possession of a firearm which was linked to a stabbing incident involving Ato Koomson, the son of the current MP and the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson,

He was reportedly stabbed near the EC Office at Ofaakor in the Central Region. The police recovered a pump-action gun with four rounds of ammunition from the vehicle, as detailed in their statement.

Naa Koryo however clarified that the said firearm is legally registered and that for the fear of her life, “I have every right to protect myself because the happenings at Kasoa necessitate that I do so.”
