The Trade and Artisan Network (TAN), under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering Ghana’s economy by supporting the informal sector.

As the 2024 general elections approach, TAN took its “Retail Campaign” to Swedru in the Agona West District and outlined the party’s tailored policies for traders and artisans to boost their activities.

The team highlighted the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy and plans to establish a women’s bank.

Mr Michael Asamoah Bamfo, Central Regional Coordinator of TAN, stated that the NDC would implement measures, including incentives and interest-free loans, to create an enabling environment for the 24-hour economy.

He added that the Women’s Development Bank would support approximately one million women traders and entrepreneurs.

According to the Ghana Statistical Service, 59.9% of the population is employed in the informal sector, accounting for 85.6% of privately owned establishments.

The coordinator emphasised the NDC’s commitment to continue its apprenticeship and entrepreneurship program, recognising the sector’s significance as the driving force of the economy.

Agona West NDC parliamentary candidate, Madam Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, said she would establish the Obaapa Project Fund, aimed at addressing local communities’ fundamental developmental needs.

She urged women to vote for the NDC, citing its commitment to supporting women traders and entrepreneurs through the Women’s Development Bank.
