The entire country of Ghana and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) family have been thrown into a state of shock, loss, and mourning, following the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our distinguished citizens, beloved former minister, and staunch member of the NDC, Hon. Hanny Sherry Ayittey.

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the NDC USA joins all in mourning, remembering, and honoring the seasoned public servant who dedicated a lifetime to service, not only for the great NDC party, but more importantly to the nation.

Hon. Ayittey served in different NDC governments over the years. She was Minister of Health, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture. In those roles, she introduced several initiatives that helped to transform the public service landscape of our country. The values and principles she promoted over the years will continue to help solidify our democracy.

As women’s activist, Hon. Ayittey was a role model to females and all those who appreciate and value women emancipation and empowerment in nation building.

Hon. Ayittey’s contributions to our great NDC party cannot be overemphasized. Her service dates back to the era of the 31st December Women’s Movement. Out of government, she continued to play active roles in party affairs until her untimely demise. In her capacity as Vice Chairman of the NDC, she helped the party accomplish a lot.

Despite her high-ranking positions, Hon. Ayittey never lost touch with the grassroots. Her humility and sense of duty to ordinary people will be sorely missed.

To the NDC family, let us reflect on the legacy of our departed comrade – the party spirit she imbued, the values and principles she held so dear, her strong work ethics, commitment to excellence, and the willingness to do what is in the interest of the party and nation. Let us protect this legacy by continuing to stay united and focused as we pursue the aims and objectives of the party.

To the family and friends she left behind, NDC USA wishes to extend our deepest sympathies, and ask God to strengthen you all as you go through this difficult time.

Hon. Ayittey will forever be remembered in the NDC and in the history of Ghana. We in the NDC USA will do all we can to project the legacy she bequeathed to us. Let’s rededicate ourselves to the cause of the party and work hard to fulfill her wish of the NDC emerging the winner of the 2024 elections.

May her soul rest in peace!

Thomas Elleamo Yankey
Secretary, NDC USA.
