The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns about the potential for bias in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) voter transfer process.
The party alleges that the EC’s decision to exclude party agents from the process is an attempt to favor the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Alex Kwaku Asafo Agyei, a former Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, the EC boss Jean Mensa is a cousin of Rebecca Akufo-Addo while Bossman Asare a former Tescon patron and Peter Appiahene an NPP communicator and IT director, are already monitoring and supervising the activities of the EC.
This, he claims, creates a conflict of interest and undermines the integrity of the electoral process.
In response, he is calling on youth in various districts to volunteer and visit the EC’s district offices to monitor and observe the voter transfer process.
Kwaku Asafo-Agyei writes:
“The EC boss, Jean Mensa, is a cousin of Rebecca Akufo-Addo. Bossman Asare is a former Tescon patron, and Peter Appiahene is an NPP communicator and IT director.
“Note that the NPP already has these three party agents monitoring and supervising all the activities of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, and as a result, they are comfortable with the EC’s decision not to allow agents to participate in the voter transfer process.
“I suggest that all the youth in our various districts volunteer and visit the Electoral Commission’s district offices to monitor and observe the ongoing voter transfer process.
“Let’s all support the call by the General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, and the efforts of the Election Directorate, led by Dr. Omane Boamah, to ensure we rescue this country from the Akufo Addo-Dr. Bawumia-led government in 2024.”
