The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has promised a solution-based manifesto as the party prepares to unveil the blueprint on Saturday, August 24, 2024, in Winneba in the Central Region.

According to the party, the manifesto will address the country’s pressing challenges with practical policies.

While the full details of the manifesto remain under wraps, the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama, has outlined some key features during his campaign speeches.

“Our priority is going to be job creation. And that is why I’m proposing a 24-hour economic policy. That’s why I’m saying in every district, I am going to create farmers’ service centres, and at the beginning of the farming season, we will give you all the inputs that you need.”

In addition, Mr Mahama pledged to create a Women’s Development Bank to offer business loans to women in the SME [Small and Medium Enterprises] sector.

He also stated that he would scrap obnoxious taxes including the betting tax and the e-levy.

The former President said, “Boys are hustling because there are no jobs. The bet they do is to get little money to buy food. When we come into power, I will abolish the betting and e-levy taxes.”

Mr Mahama has vowed that first-year university students will not be required to pay academic fees, despite scepticism about the feasibility of this promise.

According to him, this is possible by cutting down government expenditure.

He also promised a transparent government with 60 ministers and deputy ministers.

In an interview with JoyNews, a former National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo stated that the party will present a superior document compared to the NPP’s.

“I tell you that our manifesto always responds very positively to the wishes and aspirations of the people of this country. And yesterday, the Council of Elders of the party were briefed by the manifesto committee on the highlights of the manifesto and some of the flagship policies. I assure you that, the NDC manifesto that will be unveiled on Saturday will be a very superior document to that of the NPP, and will proffer solutions.”

“Very practical solutions to some of the challenges that we are having. Mind you, we have His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, who has been the former President of the Republic of Ghana. He has seen it all before. He’s a man who is on top of his job today, when you call him for an interview, he can give you all the policies, the programmes and the projects that were executed under his watch without looking into any book.

He [John Mahama] knows exactly where he’s taking this country. And after the manifesto, Ghanaians will know that the NDC will be a better option right now to entrust the future the destiny of this country than the NPP.”
