IMANI Africa’s President, Franklin Cudjoe, has debunked claims made by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that unemployment was higher in 2016 than it is currently.

In a social media post on Facebook, Mr. Cudjoe asserted that unemployment has actually quadrupled under the NPP government.

“DMB admits economic challenges but falls short of acknowledging the role his government’s fiscal recklessness contributed to the atrophy.

“It is not true that the unemployment rate was higher in 2016 than now. It is almost 4x higher now,” Cudjoe wrote.

He did, however, praise Bawumia’s proposed flat tax idea, noting its potential impact if implemented effectively.

Additionally, he commended Bawumia’s commitment to governing with only 50 ministers, describing it as a positive move for effective governance and expenditure prudence.

Dr. Bawumia, during the NPP manifesto launch on August 18, 2024, reiterated his focus on supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to drive job creation and economic growth in Ghana.
