Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Jibril, has reiterated that the party will not allow anyone to rig the elections in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He added that the umbrella family’s demands for the authenticity of the voter register are not an emotional gesture.
He stated that the party has presented sufficient evidence to back up their complaints of a defective register, which the Electoral Commission (EC) has failed to correct.
Mahdi Jibril indicated that ‘’these are the things we are sharing with Ghanaians. It is not about emotions. The EC claims we did not provide them with any evidence, but the question is, how were they able to make the corrections they claim to have resolved?’’
He told Ghanaians that they would protect the ballot and guarantee that the people’s will was not overturned in favour of another. Our request is not based on a party request, but rather on national interest. It will greatly assist the EC and ensure their integrity.
Mahdi Jibril said that the elections ought to be free, fair, and transparent, and to achieve that, we need a credible register and not one that is bloated.
He also raised serious questions regarding the decision by the EC to terminate the contract of the Pusiga EC officer who allegedly transferred votes.
To him, what happened was a criminal offence, and terminating the contract as the only punishment leaves much to be desired.
He said the party will not give up on its call for a forensic audit of the register until the EC accepts responsibility for auditing the register.
