Former President and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, is begging President Akufo-Addo and his government to pay the arrears of the trainees under the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo).
Explaining his 24-hour economy policy, he said because the incumbent government has created many artificial job creation policies, the policies have not worked as expected, citing the NABCo initiative as an example.
For him, his 24-hour economy initiative will be supported by a policy to enable the policy function, observing that the current government has not been able to pay the NABCo trainees for many months.
Former President Mahama was addressing the party’s supporters after he organised a health walk in Accra on Saturday, July 20, 2024.
“Pay NABCo trainees. Pay what is due NABCo trainees,” Mr Mahama appealed to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said the rationale for his 24-hour economy was to enable him to quickly turn the country’s economy around from its current state.
According to him, the current state of the economy was nothing to write home about and needed a transformative policy such as the 24-hour economy initiative to get better results.
Former President Mahama was of the view that Ghana cannot achieve any better results in terms of improving the economy with the way things are done now.
He also said his government will also create a Women’s Bank to offer soft loans to women in businesses, noting that such a bank will help businesswomen and women doing small businesses to access credit facilities which they cannot do so with the commercial banks.
For him, many women needed little financial assistance to start their businesses or expand their operations, explaining that the Women’s Bank will play a major role to transform small and medium sized businesses in the country.
