Some school meal caterers in the Ashanti Region have vowed to stage a naked demonstration over unpaid arrears.

The cateers have given the government until June 28, 2024 to pay all outstanding arrears or face their fury.

According to them, they have been given uncountable assurances from the NPP executives in the Ashanti Region but the arrears were yet to be paid.

The caterers, who spoke to the media, said they have sent several petitions to the appropriate authorities, but their expectations have not been met.

The caterers explained that every day their bankers and suppliers are on their necks for their money.

“We are requesting that the leadership of the School Feeding Secretariat pay us. We worked for three terms without getting paid. How do you expect us to pay our bankers and suppliers? Do you think the sum you pay us will be sufficient to cover our debts? Do you want us to get arrested? We have given you until Friday to pay us all of our arrears, or we will storm the Secretariat naked. When Bawumia was about to tour the region, you came to ask us not to protest. You would have witnessed what would have occurred. “We bought things on credit and were unable to pay,” one of the caterers explained.

Another said, “You’re treating us unfairly. Several caterers have died, while others are unwell as a result of unpaid arrears. We’re fed up with the delays. We chose not to complain because this is election year. But we’re fed up with the delays. You have chosen not to pay. Dr. Bawumia came here to sling money about, but we’ve been working for three terms and haven’t been paid. “Pay us or we will organise a naked demonstration.”

“We are going through difficulties. The wait is unreasonable. We want our debts paid, or we’ll strip nude and come to the Secretariat. We will demonstrate in public with our breasts and private parts, then walk to the Secretariat to demand payment for our overdue debts. If the government is unable to continue funding the meal service, it should be discontinued,” declared another caterer.
