North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has accused politically exposed persons in Ghana of continuing to seize lands at unfairly low prices, saying it undermines democracy.

In an interview on Accra-based TV3’s Key Points program on Saturday, September 14, Ablakwa said “Let nobody think state capture is an exaggeration, it is real, and many people are recounting their ordeals…Politically exposed persons still capturing lands at ridiculous prices.”

He argued that natural resources belong to all Ghanaians, and citizens have the right to enjoy their properties in peace without undue harassment.

“If you think you have political power then you just take whatever your eyes set upon, that can’t be tolerated, that can’t be a democracy,” Ablakwa stated.

The opposition MP singled out prime lands in Cantonments, Labone and other locations that have reportedly come under attack.

He was critical of President Akufo-Addo’s comments on the matter surrounding the attempted grabbing of the GIS land, saying the call for investigations was made in “bad faith” and prejudiced the case.

“You are calling for investigations, what do you? In all fairness to all sides we are making a formal complaint to the IGP and you stop there, you don’t have to take sides and present the narration that you have been told by Superintendent Opoku as the fact,” Ablakwa asserted.
