Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana (UG), Prof Ransford Gyampo has called out the governing New Patriotic Party for infiltrating the ranks of UTAG.

The University Teachers Association is currently on strike to drum home the need for government to address issues bothering on illegal mining.

However, a group of University teachers and non-teachers in a press conference indicated that they are the silent majority and are not in favour of the strike.

They urged their colleagues to call off their strike because efforts are underway to fight illegal mining destroying water bodies and forest reserves.

But speaking on Accra-based TV3, Gyampo blamed the government for trying to infiltrate their ranks.

He said “they tried to get to some of our people, UTAG members, they tried to get to some of them and manipulating them and they are trying to use them to break our front.

“I don’t want to talk about that issue so much because some of them are colleagues and I don’t want to contribute to the agenda of wanting to break our front. To those Deputy Ministers, those party functionaries who were part of efforts to break out front I was on the phone when you called.”
