The selection of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate for the upcoming December polls has significantly disrupted the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strategy and decision-making process regarding their own vice-presidential candidate to complement Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the flagbearer.

With just five months remaining until the 2024 December polls, the delay in the government’s nomination of their running mate appears imprudent and perplexing. George Justice Arthur, the Cape Coast South Constituency Secretary of the NDC, expressed these sentiments during a media briefing in Accra.

Arthur criticized the government for allegedly relying on unsubstantiated Bureau of National Investigation polls and criticized Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame’s recent remarks about Central Region residents’ voting behavior in light of the ongoing ambulance trial involving Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson.

Meanwhile, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has cautioned Ghanaians against the New Patriotic Party’s 2024 campaign slogan, “It is possible,” suggesting that the ruling party has not fulfilled its commitments.

Speaking to a group of female media professionals in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted recent incidents, such as pensioner bondholders protesting at the Finance Ministry, as evidence of the NPP’s failure to deliver on its promises.

She urged voters to critically evaluate the NPP’s campaign promises and consider whether they have been realized in practice.

“When making election judgments, consider the reality of their fulfillment. It’s possible to protest at the Ministry of Finance, it’s possible to have different hairstyles,” she remarked.

She also defended the NDC’s manifesto as a reflection of the people’s needs, emphasizing the party’s inclusivity and commitment to engaging diverse groups in policy development.

“My experience and insights are crucial to my role and to the country,” she added.

Opoku-Agyemang further addressed criticisms against her, affirming her pride in her achievements and commitment to serving Ghana with integrity.

“I’m proud of my journey and grateful for every moment God has granted me,” she asserted.
