Former President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to his former appointees to come out of retirement and join him in the fight to reclaim power in 2024.

The Former President on Wednesday, 22 February 2023, picked forms to contest the Presidential Primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The forms were picked on his behalf by Prof Joshua Alabi, a former Greater Accra Regional Minister under Mr Mahama.

Interacting with the former appointees in Accra shortly after the forms were picked, Mr Mahama charged them to begin the campaign to bring back the NDC to power.

He told them “Now that we are all growing up… the cost of medicine alone is not easy and so are we going to sit down and watch our lives work flash down the drain when we have children, we have grandchildren that we need to sacrifice for?

“So even though you might be in retirement, I’m urging you to put those walking sticks down and come out of retirement because this is something we must do together, it cannot be the chairman of the party, it cannot be just the minority leadership, it cannot be whoever is the flagbearer who are going to win this election for us, all of us would have to put our walking sticks down and come out of retirement and rescue this country.”

Mr Mahama further told the former appointees that “It is easy to just take a rest and say ‘I’m old now I won’t take part let the young people do it’, but you all command respect where you live and the constituencies from which you come and, so, all of us need to put our shoulders to the wheel and we must do it by example.”

He reiterated that the governing New Patriotic Party has performed abysmally and that the NDC from the records have proven to be the best party that ends up cleaning the mess created by the NPP whenever they come to power and leave.
