The Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has reiterated his calls for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators behind the recent killings in Wa.

Dr. Pelpuo emphasized the urgent need to stop the perpetrators from causing further harm to residents, condemning the gruesome murders that have instilled fear in the community.

Residents of Wa and its environs have been living in fear after more than 15 people were brutally murdered. In June 2024, Dr. Pelpuo announced a bounty of GH¢100,000 for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM with Caleb Kudah, the MP called for a robust security system in the area to curb attacks on residents. He also expressed his disappointment at the lack of assurances from security agencies.

“No efforts have been made strongly enough to catch them. No pronouncement has been made as to how we can tackle this issue. I consider all that as not adequately enough security because if your physical presence is not deterring people from doing wrong, it means your security system has a problem.”

“We want to see a situation where the laws are respected and when they are violated, we see that people are punished for that. But if people go out doing all sorts of things including murdering people. And up to the number we have now and nobody is arrested and prosecuted, it tells about the lapse we have in the security system.

Dr. Pelpuo accepted responsibility for the lack of progress, criticising the police for their failure to make arrests, and highlighting the impact of the situation on local businesses.

“I’m doing everything I can to make sure that we track down the murderers and I’m doing it alongside with the people. They decided that they were going to set up their own security and I have given them that endorsement. I think that it is good and it’s possible that the people will be energised enough to be part and parcel of the security system…

“We’re doing all we can to help unearth this mystery of serial killings…I accept blame and I will do everything I can to ensure that we’re able to track down the murderers and I want to do it along with the people.”

“I want to ensure that the security system is intact to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.”
