A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Totobi Quakyi, has claimed that Sekondi only experiences significant developmental progress when the NDC is in power.

Speaking at the campaign launch of the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sekondi, Blay Nyamekye Armah, he highlighted the contributions of the NDC government under the Rawlings administration, including the construction of the Albert Bosumtwi Sam Fishing Harbour and the Sekondi Railways, which created numerous jobs in the region.

Totobi Quakyi criticised subsequent New Patriotic Party (NPP) governments for stalling Sekondi’s development, arguing that they have failed to build on the foundations laid by the NDC.

He emphasised that since the NPP took power, little progress has been made in advancing the economic and infrastructural growth of the area.

Mr Quakyi urged the residents of Sekondi to vote for NDC’s Presidential Candidate John Mahama and Parliamentary Candidate Blay Nyamekye Armah in the upcoming 2024 elections.

According to him, an NDC victory is the key to reviving development in Sekondi and ensuring the area benefits from sustainable progress.

“Myself and the late MP Albert Bosomtwi Sam, we went to Japan. While we were having a conversation, he [Albert Bosomtwi Sam] suggested that we should talk to the Japanese and convince them to come and put up a fishing harbour ni Sekondi because it would help us. That is how we got the Albert Bosumtwi Sam finishing Habour and we named it after him.”

“Have we seen any major developments since Albert left office? All they brought is the AstroTurf but does it create jobs? You only use the turf to exercise when you are tired from working. Every long-lasting development that has occurred in Sekondi Takoradi has been the work of the NDC.”

“John Mahama brought the Takoradi Port Expansion project. The late Atta Mills brought the Sekondi-Kojokrom railway project. When the NDC is in government, we will bring progress,” he stated.
