Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis Xavier-Sosu, has commended the NDC’s ‘No academic fees’ policy for its potential to support talented but financially disadvantaged students.

During the 2nd Edition of the Sosu Best Teacher Awards, he cited the story of 17-year-old Joseph Luther, who excelled in his WASSCE exams but faced financial barriers to pursuing his dream of becoming a dentist.

Xavier-Sosu’s team extended recognition beyond educators this year, awarding Joseph Luther a one-year full scholarship to study Dentistry at the university.

The MP emphasised the importance of supporting bright students facing financial difficulties, highlighting the impact of policies like ‘No academic fees’ policy in providing relief to students and their families.

Xavier-Sosu, while stressing the significance of accessible education for all said, “People like Joseph can now look to the future with hope,” Sosu said, underscoring the significance of accessible education for all. This scholarship is a small step in ensuring that brilliant minds like Joseph have the chance to shine, regardless of their economic background,”

He reiterated his commitment to educational equity, ensuring that no student is denied opportunities due to financial barriers.

The 2nd Edition of the Sosu Best Teacher Awards celebrated outstanding educators while underscoring the need for policies that remove financial obstacles to higher education.
