A member of the Parliamentary Committee on Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises, Richard Kwami Sefe, says the decision by the management of the State Transport Company (STC) to appoint a third Deputy Managing Director is a calculated attempt to secure employment for party loyalists.

Staff at STC protested the appointment of a third deputy managing director, describing it as a waste of public funds.

In a petition to the Board Chairman, the staff argued that the two existing deputies are sufficient and that the company should prioritise acquiring more buses and settling outstanding pensions.

Richard Kwami Sefe reacting to the development in an interview with Citi News said the government is using the company to satisfy party loyalists.

“Every company that is about government, the real people who were employed are no longer functional. It is just either somebody’s assistant or somebody being asked to come and add to the numbers, and what have you.

“Why would you have fewer vehicles or a fleet of vehicles and still be recruiting people at this critical moment in the company? These things do not add up, and we need no scientist or researcher to come and tell us what we are doing is wrong.

“It is because some people claim they struggled and worked for the party, and they are not being recognised so they have to be given something to do.”
