The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged the people of Akyem Oda to break the New Patriotic Party (NPP) dominance and vote NDC for a change in governance in the December 7 elections.

He expressed optimism that the NDC was poised to emerge victorious in the December 7, 2024 presidential and parliamentary polls and therefore urged them to join the winning boat in their own interest.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, made the call when he addressed a political rally at Oda last Tuesday at the beginning of the second phase of the NDC’s political campaigns in the Eastern Region.

He noted with regret that Oda, which used to be counted among the 10 most developed towns in the country, had retrogressed as the NPP had neglected the community in terms of development despite the massive votes the NPP garnered in all general elections since 1992.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah advised the electorate to accept the money the NPP would use to influence them in the wake of the upcoming election, but vote for the NDC for better governance and the improvement of their lifestyles.

He emphasised that the ruling NPP had plunged the nation into economic woes and it was the NDC which had the potential to revamp the shattered economy and create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.

Earlier in the day, Mr Asiedu Nketiah and his entourage had paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of the Akyem Kotoku State, Oseadieyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV and his elders at the Oda palace where he outlined the vision of the NDC in the upcoming general election to them.

Oseadieyo Frimpong Manso, however, advised all political leaders to impress upon their supporters to eschew all acts of violence and conduct their campaigns with decorum devoid of insult, hate language and intimidation to sustain the prevailing peace, unity and stability before, during and after the December 7, 2024 general election.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah used the two functions to introduce the NDC parliamentary aspirant for Oda, Jones Asante, to the electorate.

At the Omanhene’s palace, a group known as Eastern Region Youth Development Association through its chairman, Joshua Badu, presented a petition to the NDC National Chairman for the creation of a new region from the current Eastern Region should the party win political power in the upcoming general election to speed up the progress of the area.

Mr Badu said copies of the petition would be sent to all the other political parties.
