Dr. Abdul Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Member of Parliament for the Wa Central Constituency, has criticized the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for announcing a three-week power outage.

He believes this situation reveals the shortcomings of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

Dr. Pelpuo stated that the government has not been honest with the people about the country’s power issues. The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced that there will be power interruptions for three weeks due to a decrease in gas supply from Nigeria.

The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) explained that the reduction in gas supply is because of maintenance work being carried out by a gas supplier in Nigeria, which is expected to last for three weeks. This maintenance has led to a decrease in Ghana’s overall power generation capacity, resulting in planned power outages during this period.

Speaking on Ahotor FM‘s morning show ‘Adekyee Mu Nsem‘ with host Citizen Kofi Owusu, Dr. Pelpuo expressed his frustration. He said that ‘Dumsor’ (a term used in Ghana to describe power outages) is a real issue, and he is surprised that the government remains silent about it.
