Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has challenged the Akufo-Addo administration’s claim of constructing 12,000 kilometers of roads.

He asserted that there is no visible evidence to support the claim.

During a campaign event in the Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom Constituency, Mr Mahama pledged that a future NDC government would conduct an audit to verify the legitimacy of these road projects.

“The NPP says in the eight years of Kufuor, they did 3,000 and something kilometers of road and NDC did 4,700 km of roads and they have 12,000 kilometers of roads… when we come, the new roads they said they have done, we will audit them and find out where the money that has been paid for 12,000 kilometers has gone because we can’t find those roads,” he stated.

He further questioned the location of the alleged roads, remarking that the poor state of road networks across the country contradicts the government’s assertion, suggesting sarcastically that the roads may be in the President’s hometown of Kyebi.

“Everywhere I go, the main complaint is about the road network. Where are your 12,000 kilometers of road?” he asked.

Additionally, Mr Mahama criticised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his economic management, stating that Ghanaians would give him a failing grade of ‘F’ for his performance.

He explained that the rating is because the NPP has failed in the management of the economy, adding that they cannot escape blame for it.

He, therefore, advised Dr Bawumia to allow the public to rate his work, instead of self-assessing.

“Recently, I heard the NPP flagbearer saying that he has performed excellently as Vice President so they should promote him to the president. I don’t know who marked his script and whether he marked it himself but I can tell him that when it comes to his performance, the mark that the people of Ghana will give him for management of the economy is F, that is fail,” he noted.
