Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has assured members of the National Democratic Congress and all other people who are calling for change that the NDC will this time around protect their votes.
According to him, the political party has fashioned out a robust system to ensure that their votes are collated.
“This election is not going to be business as usual. Through our party executives, we are recruiting competent, committed and loyal agents at the constituency and branch levels. Personally I have also tasked the NDC elections and IT Directorate to rely on our party’s robust database to generate potential polling agents.
In addition, we are recruiting volunteers ready and willing to join our campaign efforts in the communities to drive home the message and demand for change. We shall collate our results on time as we did during the Assin North by-election.
On 7th December if the EC makes any mistakes we shall promptly correct them. Change is coming and change must come because we cannot look unconcerned,” he said.
It will be remembered that the current Chairman for the opposition NDC in a leaked audio addressing party delegates while campaigning to be elected as Chairman disclosed that the NDC went to court without collated results.
He indicated that the party’s software crashed after a few minutes when they started the collation process.
“We appointed Griffith who was recommended by Chairman Ofosu Ampofo. He designed our collations software for the 2020 elections. The software crashed after collating five regions so that is why we did not get the results to challenge the Electoral Commission. We could only collate five regions,” Asiedu Nketia said.
He continued “we knew that Akufo-Addo didn’t win the first round of the elections considering the figures from each region, however, we did not have evidence to support our claim because the system crashed”.
“So we resorted to manual collation. We took the pink sheet from the various regions and Chairman Ofosu Ampofo said he will still be a member of that committee. He brought in some people from the Universities in the country. When it was time for me to be cross examined, I asked for the results they had collated and the results they gave me was a disgrace. I am well known when it comes to elections in Ghana so I decided I cannot go with those figures. Even Lawyer Tsikata rejected the data they presented,” he said.
