Vice President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, visited the scene of the devastating fire at Kantamanto Market on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

The inferno, which destroyed the entire market, has left thousands of traders without their livelihoods.

During her visit, she consoled the affected traders and called for swift action to address the situation.

“We know you don’t have much. How much profit do we make? We work and don’t even get enough to eat,” she said to the grieving traders.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also urged anyone with information about the cause of the fire to come forward, emphasizing, “If you know who did that, and you keep it to yourself, you have done no good. The government must deal with them.”

The traders hailed her compassion and presence, expressing hope for relief and justice in the wake of the tragedy.

The fire, which reportedly began late Thursday night, has been attributed to either an electrical fault or arson.

Investigations are ongoing as calls for accountability intensify.
