The opposition side of Parliament was filled with joy on Tuesday, July 30.

Ushered in by a spirited chant of victory songs, the Minority legislators hailed their Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as he entered the chamber, after the Appeals Court acquitted him.

Most of the excited NDC MPs were clad in white scarfs around their necks.

Former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu officially announced the court’s decision on the floor.

His successor, Cassiel Ato Forson, and Big Sea agent Richard Jakpa were discharged after a 2:1 majority decision quashing the Ambulance trial for allegedly causing financial loss to the State.

The Attorney General has vowed to appeal against the Appeals Court’s decision.

Godfred Dame indicated that his office “considers the decision of the Court of Appeal to be perverse in the quest for public accountability and the rule of law.”

But Mr. Iddrisu says that instead of appealing, the Attorney-General should swallow his defeat to prevent what he describes as further disgrace.

The mood on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side of the aisle was rather desolate.

Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin told the NDC MPs to be consistent when court rulings go their way in the future.
