The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for a peaceful, free and transparent election on December 7, 2024.
In an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, the Deputy General Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, emphasised that no one should suffer harm because of elections.
In this regard, Mr Gbande has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against any plans to rig the election, stating the NDC would resist it.
“We must not lose an NPP or NDC member because of an election but let me assure you if they want to go the other way, we’re one step ahead of them and we will stop them. We are prepared,” he declared.
He stated that, the Electoral Commission(EC) has a major role to play to ensure the electoral process is transparent and credible.
Mr Gbande has therefore charged the Commission to ensure Ghanaians build trust in them to avoid any potential danger.
“The perception of someone rigging an election is an inference and assumption. So the EC has to move the trust of Ghanaians so that if the political parties are making noise, Ghanaians will say the EC is working,” he stated.
He noted that the EC will be directing the anger of Ghanaians towards itself if it fails to be diligent and efficient in discharging its duties.
Mr Gbande’s comment follows the NDC’s ‘Enough is Enough’ demo against the EC to press on their demand for a forensic audit of the voters register.
