The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has assured the people of the Northern Region that an NDC government will prioritize their development needs and remain committed to the region.

Speaking at a large rally during the parliamentary campaign launch for Mr Haruna Iddrisu in the Tamale South Constituency on Sunday, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the NDC does not take the support of the Northern Region for granted.

She promised that the next NDC government would focus on creating jobs and developing the region through initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy, the Big Push, and the National Apprenticeship Programme.

“Just as you have not turned your backs on our party, we have also not turned our backs on the people of Tamale and the Northern Region. Our next government will do more for the people in this region,” she stated.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed gratitude to the people for their continued support, highlighting the NDC’s contributions to the region, such as the establishment of the University for Development Studies (UDS) and the development of the Tamale International Airport.

She emphasized that the next NDC government would further support the region by addressing issues affecting Muslim communities, including reducing the high cost of Hajj fares and expanding educational infrastructure in Zongo communities.

This would involve building three new Islamic Senior High Schools in the northern, middle, and southern parts of the country.

She also promised scholarships for students from zongos and inner cities to study fields like law, medicine, engineering, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

In her address, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called for continued support for Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, praising him as a knowledgeable and dedicated parliamentarian who serves the interests of the people of Ghana.

“He is a parliamentarian who is knowledgeable, intelligent, takes his duties seriously, debates issues passionately and is always on the side of the people of Ghana,” she said.

She urged the electorate to vote not only for Mr. Iddrisu and other NDC parliamentary candidates but also for NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to become the next president of Ghana, enabling him to “reset the country and provide jobs.”
