Atik Mohammed has censured His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing his Executive Secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo an ambassador-at-large.
Nana Bediatuo Asante has been serving as Secretary to the President since 2017.
At a presentation of the letters of credence to diplomats, President Akufo-Addo named him as ambassador-at-large and urged the nine newly appointed diplomats to actively promote Ghana’s image and interests abroad.
But to Atik, the President giving Nana Asante Bediatuo this position shows how insensitive he’s become towards Ghanaians.
He questioned the relevance of the appointment and also saw it as an abuse of office as he claimed Nana Asante Bediatuo remains Secretary to the President while he assumes the ambassador role as well.
This, to him, is condemnable, stating “I’m beginning to feel that the President is exhibiting some insensitivity to Ghanaians. Six months to an election, what at all is happening in this world that you need an Ambassador at large and it is no new a person but your Executive Secretary? And it doesn’t look like he will leave the post but he is still at post; yes, he is not leaving. The job of Ambassador requires you to leave, travel sometimes [but] he’s still at post”.
He made these remarks on “Kokrokoo” discussion show on Peace FM.
