Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has come under scrutiny for claiming credit for the successes of the Akufo-Addo government but distancing himself from its failures.
Member of Parliament for Ellembele and Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has questioned Dr. Bawumia’s attempt to extricate himself from the economic woes facing Ghana despite being an integral part of the administration.
In a statement posted via X on Thursday, February 8, Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah asked “Why should Vice President Bawumia eagerly claim credit for the minor gains made by the government but conveniently avoid taking responsibility for its numerous failures?”
As the head of the economic management team, the lawmaker posited Bawumia has played a leading role in shaping key economic policies like taxes on electronic transactions and betting.
However, the NDC lawmaker doesn’t understand why in his first major speech on his presidential bid, Dr. Bawumia promised to abolish these very taxes.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah described this move as wanting “to eat his cake and have it.”
He insisted Bawumia, as a prominent member of the Akufo-Addo government, cannot separate himself from the economic downturn under their watch.
