Renowned political scientist Professor Ransford Gyampo has raised questions about the motives behind a recent survey by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) preferred choice for presidential running mate.
In a series of Facebook posts on Friday, June 21, Prof. Gyampo queried whether the NIB, a state security agency, should be undertaking surveys on internal party matters.
The University of Ghana lecturer further asked whether the NIB would have leaked its results if it showed that the party members preferred opposition NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah as Bawumia’s running mate.
“Who asked the NIB to undertake a survey into an NPP internal partisan matter? What was the motive? Did they use our money and state resources to conduct an NPP internal survey? Is the National Intelligence Bureau a Party Intelligence Bureau?” he quizzed.
“Would you have leaked your report if the party had said Asiedu Nketiah was the preferred choice to partner DMB?” Prof. Gyampo further questioned the NIB.
“Running mate selection is the choice of the flagbearer. Stop forcing people on DMB!” he emphasized.
Prof. Gyampo’s comments come after a new NIB survey reported that over 75% of NPP delegates prefer Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Vice President Bawumia’s running mate in 2024.
