Founder of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has lamented the devastated state of rivers in the country as a result of the massive destruction caused by illegal mining [galamsey] activities.
According to him, although President Akufo-Addo promised to put his Presidency on the line to fight galamsey, that has not been the case in the last eight years.
Since last week, videos and pictures of several polluted rivers in the country due to the activities of galamsey have gone viral.
Environmentalists and many Ghanaians have blamed government for the destruction caused to the rivers, citing a lack of commitment to deal with galamsey.
In a post on social media today, Franklin Cudjoe described the activities of galamsey leading to the destruction and pollution of the country’s water bodies as pure evil.
Reminding President Akufo-Addo of his promise to put his presidency on the line to deal with illegal mining, the IMANI Africa founder said the president has failed the task and must do the needful.
“This is pure evil. Sad. After 8 years in power, this is the state of Ghanaian rivers due to abject neglect by the state. The president promised to put his presidency on the line if he failed to deal with illegal mining. This should not wait to be dealt with after elections. Death and decay do not wait for politicians to feel comfortable in office. Act now,” Franklin Cudjoe said.
