Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a former Deputy Minister of Transport, has refuted President Nana Akufo-Addo’s claims of having built a legacy that he, Mr. Akufo-Addo, does not want former President John Mahama to succeed him after the December 7 general elections.

Mr. Akufo-Addo said the NDC’s 2024 presidential candidate if voted for, will “destroy everything we have accomplished under my tenure.”

President Akufo-Addo indicated that he does not want to hand over power to Mr. Mahama, who is not happy with anything he does because he defeated him twice.

Addressing a mini rally in Doboro in the Greater Accra region following a visit to the premises of Blue Skies Limited, President Akufo-Addo called on the supporters to go and register in the limited voter registration exercise to vote for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“I can’t hand over to someone I defeated twice and is not happy with everything I do, he will destroy the work that I have done.

“Vote for Dr Bamwua, I have worked with him for the past seven and a half years, I have confidence in him, I know he can continue the good work,” said the President.

However, the former Deputy Transport Minister, Madam Bawah Mogtari, in a post on X on Wednesday, cast doubt on any so-called work done by the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government.

She said President Akufo-Addo’s legacy will be one of “monumental failure and disappointment.”

She highlighted the challenges facing Ghanaians, stressing that voters would reject the NPP and Vice President Dr. Bawumia on December 7.

“At least we all know that apart from winning the elections, Mr President @NAkufoAddo knows that he will only leave a legacy of chaos, a legacy of debt, a legacy of corruption and stealing, a legacy of borrowing, high inflation and taxes, high unemployment, poorer citizens and unprecedented economic hardships and Akufo Addo knows that everyone knows that his legacy will be one of monumental failure and disappointment.”

“So you see Mr President you spent almost eight years bathing in the sky aboard luxurious jets paid for by the poor taxpayers, to enrich yourself, your family, and your friends instead of focusing on the job and development.

At least we all know that apart from winning the elections, Mr President @NAkufoAddo knows that he will only leave a legacy of chaos, a legacy of debt, a legacy of corruption and stealing, a legacy of borrowing, high inflation and taxes, high unemployment, poorer citizens and…

“Now you can see that your record is in tatters and you are screaming yourself hoarse about your legacy! #NPPMustGo,” she posted.

Akufo-Addo hires expensive jet for foreign travels

Ranking Member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, accused President Akufo-Addo in 2021 of abandoning Ghana’s presidential jet to rent an expensive private jet for his foreign trips.

But Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul mounted a spirited defence of the decision by President Akufo-Addo to charter a private jet for foreign trips for 15,000 pounds an hour.

He argued that the safety and security of the president were the ultimate factors in deciding the type of aircraft used for his travels.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, the Bimbilla lawmaker argued the Presidential jet is handicapped in handling long-distance travel, which will require refuelling.

He also revealed that the jet lacks enough luggage capacity as well as a place for the president to shower while onboard.

“The decision to travel to long and multiple destinations such as the president travelling to France, Belgium and South Africa, will always require a larger aircraft even when the Falcon is airworthy…When the President is travelling with more than 20 people for a business trip…you will need more than just a Falcon, otherwise, the people will have to go more than a day ahead of the president to prepare themselves.

“The president himself must go more than a day ahead to prepare himself because no president can shower in this aircraft, so you can’t move from this aircraft straight into a meeting,” Mr Nitiwul noted.
