The running mate to former President John Mahama, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will be sworn into office as the first female vice-president of the Republic of Ghana on January 7, 2025, Nana Oppong Panyea II, has said.

The Chief of Achimfo in the Aowin Constituency in the Western North Region said the unsurpassed record of the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration under former President John Mahama provided enough rationale and reference for the electorate to vote for the NDC and to ensure that the country puts in office the first female Vice-President.

Nana Panyea II said this at his palace when the NDC running mate called on him and his elders to announce her presence in the community and to seek permission to enable her to engage the people in the communities during her campaign tour of the area.

Remarks

Nana Panyea said he was making the remark very much aware that chiefs were not expected to engage in politics but the reality is that “chiefs are not barred from telling the truth which is that Prof. Naana Jane Opoku –Agyemang from her accomplishment so far is more than qualified to hold the position of the first female Vice-President of the country”.

He said the NDC had helped in the development of the Achimfo community more than any other government in the history of the country.

In her response, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said development was the goal of the NDC and former President Mahama and for that reason any citizen who genuinely wanted development in their communities ought to vote for the NDC.

She took pains to explain aspects of the 24 Hour Economy proposal by former President Mahama and the establishment of the National Women’s Development Bank to the Chiefs and elders which she said were well-thought-out policies to alleviate the hardships the citizens were currently going through in the country as well as provide more jobs for the youth.

Administration

She disclosed that the NDC administration would revive all projects, especially schools and hospitals, which the party started but had been abandoned by the current regime.

She expressed her appreciation to the chief for his frankness.

For his part, the Western North Regional Chairman of the NDC, Michael Aidoo,  pleaded with the chief and elders to advise their people to continue to vote for the NDC as they had done since the beginning of the fourth republic to ensure that they were not denied their share in the overall development of the nation.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has since ended the four-day tour of the Western North Region which took her to Achimfo in the Aowin Constituency, Dadieso in the Suaman Constituency, Datano and Suiano in the Bodi Constituency, Camp Junction and Adabokrom in the Bia East Constituency, Essam and Elluokrom in the Bia East Constituency and Asawinso and Bopa in the Sefwi Wiaso Constituency.

She was accompanied on the tour by her Campaign Manager, Alex Segbefia and her Campaign Spokesperson, James Agyenim Boateng, and other members of the campaign team.
