A communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric Sosu, has served notice that the party will not allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to rig the 2024 general elections in favour of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) like it did during the 2020 elections.
He said the current composition of the EC is designed with an agenda to rig the elections, but the NDC will not entertain that this year.
He declared that they are ready to uphold the people’s will and make sure the results accurately reflect the electorate.
Appearing on the Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Sosu stated that the elections ought to be free, fair, transparent, and credible.
Reacting to the call by Jean Mensah, the EC Chair, on the need for all the political parties to accept the outcome of the results, he said, “If she wants to repeat what happened in the 2020 elections, then it would be difficult for us to accept her call. In 2020, she announced different results. We will not allow anyone to rig the elections in favour of the governing NPP.
“In our past, nothing like the findings that EC revealed. The EC appears to be in the pocket of someone, as does its leadership. However, in this election year, the events of 2020 will not recur. However, after seeing at what transpired in Techiman South, Ablekuma Central, and other places, where fictitious soldiers were employed to terrorise civilians, we will no longer tolerate this. We’re not going to let them rig the polls.
“The EC must organise a free, fair, and transparent election. It is important for them to do so to ensure that all parties will accept the outcome. The 2020 electoral processes were rigged, and the NPP did everything to win at all costs. But we are ready for the battle in 2024. We are not saying we are going to battle to fight. Rather, we are ready to protect the ballot. We will put in the hard work and prevent them from rigging. I believe Jean Mensa has been advised not to run for office, and she must listen to the advice.”
He named National Organiser Joseph Yamin, General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, and Chairman Asiedu Nketiah as the three formidable front-runners who will assist the party in averting the plot to rig the elections.
